Vanessa Aguirre told the Eastern New Mexico News that she fled the building when a man came into the library with a gun and started to shoot into the air.

“It all happened so fast,” she said.

One suspect has been taken into custody, Burroughs said, with resident Joseph Tapid telling the News that he captured video of the arrest around 4:30.

Tapia added that he saw more than a dozen people fleeing the library, ranging in age from small children to the elderly.

It was not immediately clear how old the people killed and wounded are.

“I’m heartbroken by the horrific events in Clovis tonight. Please join Jill and me in keeping Clovis in your thoughts and prayers,” Democratic New Mexico Sen. Tom Udall posted on Twitter.

Clovis is a small city of about 40,000 people near New Mexico’s border with Texas.
